Privacy Statement
Last updated 18 February 2019.
Conveyancing R Us Pty Ltd (CRU) appreciates that privacy is important to you and is committed to respecting the privacy of your personal information. This covers all information which identifies you as an individual or from which your identity can be reasonably ascertained.
Collection of personal information
The information we collect will depend on the circumstances. For example, we may collect your personal information when you:
- instruct us to provide a legal service to you;
- attend a seminar organised by CRU; or
- have business dealings with us (whether as one of our suppliers or in the context of a transaction).
Using your personal information
CRU will use personal information collected for the primary purpose for which it is collected, namely to undertake the work you have instructed us to do on your behalf.
The use of personal information remains confidential at all times. Our staff are bound by strict duties of confidentiality to clients. The collection and use of personal information will only be done in compliance with this Statement. We will request your consent — in writing if necessary — if it is collected or used in any other way. In some circumstances, consent to the collection and use of personal information may be implied; for instance, where an individual gives us information after being fully advised of how it will be used.
Disclosure of personal information
CRU does not sell or trade personal information or allow third parties to use that personal information for their own purposes. There may be occasions where external contractors or suppliers will need to assist our office with information handling — for instance, off-site storage or electronic database management. Any access by third parties is limited, and we ensure that those suppliers and contractors are also bound by duties of confidentiality and privacy. We also request that our clients confirm they have made their own disclosures or obtained consents before they pass any personal information to our office.
Security of personal information
CRU takes reasonable steps to ensure the security of your personal information. Our IT systems are password protected. However, while we will take reasonable steps to protect your personal information, data transmission over the internet cannot be guaranteed as completely secure.
It is our policy to destroy all personal information once there is no longer a legal or business need to retain that information. Email is not entirely private given the nature of the technology — it can be viewed, copied or amended with the requisite skill. If you are concerned about the confidentiality of any correspondence, you may wish to communicate with us by post or telephone.
Access to and correction of personal information
If you wish to access the personal information that CRU holds about you, please set out your request in writing and forward it to our Privacy Officer with proof of identification at the address below.
We can ordinarily provide you with a copy of the relevant personal information from our current records (an electronic print-out or a photocopy). If you believe personal information about you that we hold is inaccurate or out of date — or if you have any other queries about access and correction — please contact our Privacy Officer using the contact details below. CRU will not charge you for the cost of providing this type of access to current records.
Cookies
We may use cookies on our website to maintain user sessions and to generate aggregate statistics about how visitors use the site. This information is used to keep the site relevant and useful and generally will not identify you. Most web browsers are set by default to accept cookies; if you do not wish to receive cookies you may set your browser to refuse them.
Effect of this Statement
This Statement does not form a contract between an individual and CRU and its employees. The Statement may also be subject to change. Whenever you need to refer to this Statement you should contact our office for the most up-to-date version.
